About Woomera Aboriginal Corporation
Woomera is an Aboriginal organisation founded in 1990 with a proud history and a demonstrated track record. From an Aboriginal housing background, Woomera has grown to provide a range of family and children’s services and community development programs.
As we focus on our strategic direction for the next three years we are determined to embrace and celebrate the diversity of our local Aboriginal population. This honours our recent history whereby Aboriginal people were moved from other areas to Albury/Wodonga as part of a resettlement program over the past thirty or so years.
While it is crucial that we work together, it is also important that we develop our leaders and celebrate our collective culture. Within this, we need to share our culture with the broader community to build understanding and better partnerships.
The importance of looking at ways to strengthen Aboriginal community leadership within our young people, our families and the organisation provides the key to developing stronger and more empowered communities.
Community Hub
Woomera employs a part-time Community Hub Coordinator who coordinates the Koori Interagency Network as well as undertakes a number of community education and referral functions. This role also develops relationships/ partnerships with other organisations/agencies to support the community focussing on culture, family, well being, leadership and mentoring, training and employment, transport and connectedness.
