Family Preservation

Family Preservation Program provides an intensive, time-limited, home based program for vulnerable families involved with Department of Community Justice. Children in these families are at risk of entering an out-of-home placement due to protective concerns. The primary intended outcome of Family Preservation Program is to help support families reach their goals for their children to remain in the home in a safe, stable and secure environment.

Family Preservation is a voluntary service and can work with families for up to 2 years. Family Preservation will assist with linking families into support services, referrals, medical and specialist appointments.  Family Preservation will also be provided support within the home. Staff will work with the family towards reducing the child protection concerns by developing an action plan and using a number of tools, skills and strategies with the family which may include teaching/modelling the new strategies, developing routines or behaviour charts for the individual child and/or family/household members.

Family Preservation staff are Mandatory Reporters and are required to report and suspected Risk of Harm (ROSH) concerns should they arise during Family Preservation casework.

Family Preservation Program can only accept referrals from Department of Community Justice, should families meet the criteria. Please see DCJ website.
